Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held separate phone calls on Tuesday with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed as Cairo intensified diplomatic contacts aimed at containing regional tensions and preventing further escalation.
Abdelatty discussed regional developments with Prince Faisal, focusing on efforts to contain the current crisis amid what Egypt’s Foreign Ministry described as growing signs of a possible escalation.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nader Zaki said the two ministers stressed the importance of pursuing political and peaceful solutions through dialogue. They also agreed to maintain close consultation and coordination between Cairo and Riyadh.
The ministers further agreed to continue coordination through the four-country ministerial mechanism comprising Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan, which focuses on de-escalation and diplomatic approaches to regional crises.
In a separate call with Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, Abdelatty discussed the latest regional developments and indications that tensions could intensify in the coming period.
Abdelatty stressed the need for regional states to coordinate closely and intensify efforts to bring all parties back to a political and diplomatic track, preventing the current crisis from entering a more dangerous phase.
