Egypt’s exports of chemical industries and fertilisers rose by 34% year on year to $9.54bn in the first nine months of 2026, compared with $7.14bn in the same period last year, according to the Chemical and Fertilisers Export Council.
The sector generated an additional $2.4bn in export revenues between January and September, reflecting stronger international demand for several key product groups and the expansion of Egypt’s export base, the council said in a statement on Sunday.
Khaled Abu El-Makarem, chairperson of the council, said the performance reflected the sector’s growing export capabilities and Egyptian companies’ success in strengthening their presence in both traditional and emerging markets.
He added that the results demonstrated the production capacity and competitiveness of Egypt’s chemical and fertiliser industries, as well as their ability to supply a diverse range of products that meet international buyers’ requirements.
Abu El-Makarem said the council would continue working to open new export markets, strengthen direct engagement with international importers and support companies through trade missions, participation in international exhibitions, bilateral meetings and market research.
He added that the next phase would focus on building on the growth achieved, increasing the added value of Egyptian products and enhancing companies’ competitiveness.
Fertilisers ranked as the largest export product group, generating $2.53bn during the nine-month period, followed by petrochemicals at $2.43bn and plastics and polymers at $1.98bn, according to the council’s data.
The European Union remained the largest destination for Egyptian chemical and fertiliser exports, receiving products worth $3.47bn, equivalent to 36.4% of the sector’s total exports.
Asian markets, excluding Arab countries, ranked second, with exports reaching $2.28bn, while shipments to Arab countries amounted to $1.74bn, accounting for around 18.2% of the total.
The council said the figures reflected the geographical diversification of Egyptian exports and highlighted further opportunities in Asian, African and American markets, alongside continued expansion in European and Arab destinations.
It also highlighted differences in export composition across major markets, noting that Egyptian companies were supplying a diverse range of products tailored to demand in each destination.
