The survey shows that Texas is ready to flip Democrat. If accurate, that means that Texas is primed to elect a Democrat to the Senate for the first time in nearly forty years.
Follow us on GoogleUS Senate midterm poll results published by The New York Times and Siena University on Sunday indicate that Republicans trail the Democrats in most battleground states.
The survey shows that Texas is ready to flip Democratic. If accurate, that means that Texas is primed to elect a Democrat to the Senate for the first time in nearly forty years.
Kansas, which is in a similar situation, has not elected a democrat since 1932.
The polls point to a major shift in the political landscape of the US and signal that a significant blow is underway for the Trump administration, which has benefited from a Senate majority in Congress since the 2024 elections.
In order to win a majority in the Senate, the Democratic Party must hold all of its seats and flip at least four of the seats currently held by Republicans.
Democrats lead in key states for majority control of Senate
There are seven "battleground states" - closely contested states determined by narrow voting margins where candidates from either party could secure the win.
Democrats lead in five Republican strongholds, according to the NYT poll.
Those leads are significant in Kansas, Maine, Ohio, and Texas. Meanwhile, Democrats lead narrowly in Alaska, while a sixth Republican state, Iowa, shows an extremely tight race.
Dissatisfaction with Trump administration a major factor in electorate shift
The results reflect dissatisfaction with the incumbent administration. US President Donald Trump's approval rating has recently been polled at 32%, slightly higher than his all-time low.
A Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll released last month found that 52% of Americans strongly disapproved of Trump, with mounting economic fallout from the war with Iran being a central issue.
The president has been campaigning consistently in the run-up to the November third midterm elections, with recent rallies having been held in Florida, Kansas, and Iowa.
At one of the rallies, Trump said Democrats left the US in a "dark age" but "we quickly turned it into the golden age of America" during his administration.
