Veteran filmmakers Hype Williams and Darren Aronofsky, both best known for their experimental approach to filmmaking, will receive honorary awards at this year’s Camerimage Film Festival in Torún, Poland.
Williams will be handed the ToruńCAMERIMAGE Award for Achievements in Music Video. Aronofsky will be honored with Camerimage’s honorary Award for Director.
Williams is arguably the most influential filmmaker to work consistently in the music video format. His collaborators have included The Notorious B.I.G., Tupac Shakur, Missy Elliott, Busta Rhymes, Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z, Dr. Dre, Beyoncé, and Pharrell Williams. He is responsible for now-classic music videos such as Kanye West’s All of the Lights and Mase’s Feel So Good. In 1998, he directed the feature Belly, starring Nas and DMX, which is now considered one of the late masterworks of the 1990s.
Previous recipients of the Music Video award at Camerimage include Michael Lindsay-Hogg, Samuel Bayer, Jonas Åkerlund, Wayne Isham, Julien Temple, Joseph Kahn, and Floria Sigismondi. Williams will receive the award in person in Toruń.
Aronofsky is one of the leading directors of his generation. He made his debut with Pi (1998), which earned him the directing award at Sundance and an Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay. His other credits include Requiem for a Dream, The Wrestler, Black Swan, and The Whale. Aronofsky last directed Caught Stealing (2025). He won the Venice Golden Lion in 2008 with The Wrestler.
Camerimage 2026 runs from November 7 to November 14.
Film screenings at the festival include Bassam Tariq’s Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother and Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor’s NAZA.
