PETCHABURI - A black panther has again been spotted in Kaeng Krachan National Park, highlighting the rich biodiversity of Thailand's largest national park and one of its most elusive predators.
Park chief Mongkol Chaipakdee said rangers patroling a natural trail had encountered the animal on Sunday on an adjacent road inside the park, between kilometre markers 21 and 22.
The sighting came a day after a foreign tourist, identified as Landru Guca, also reported seeing and photographing a black panther while travelling alone through the park. Park officials said the visitor, who speaks Thai, complied with park regulations, remained inside his vehicle and did not disturb the animal.
The Kaeng Krachan forest complex is home to a wide range of protected wildlife species and remains one of Thailand's most important biodiversity hotspots. Sightings of black panthers are considered a positive sign of a healthy ecosystem.
Mr Mongkol said patrols regularly monitor the area to protect visitors and minimise conflicts between people and wildlife. He urged tourists to follow safety rules, including driving slowly, remaining inside their vehicles in designated risk areas, and avoiding loud noise that could disturb animals.
