Bill Hader and Quinta Brunson are voice stars of the upcoming animated film “The Cat in the Hat” — and now they’re collaborating in live action as well. Hader revealed on Monday night’s episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live” that he will make a guest appearance sometime later this season on Brunson’s “Abbott Elementary.”
Details are under wraps, including who Hader will play and when his episode will air. Hader was most recently seen playing Abraham Lincoln opposite Larry David in this year’s “Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness.” He also was seen in a 2021 episode of David’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”
Of course, Hader is best known for creating, directing, writing, executive producing and starring in the HBO series “Barry,” which ran from 2019 to 2023 and earned him two Emmys for outstanding comedy lead actor. He also co-created, wrote and executive produced “Documentary Now!” and spent eight seasons on “Saturday Night Live,” from 2005 to 2013.
In film, Hader has been in projects including “The Skeleton Twins,” “Trainwreck” and “It Chapter Two.” And in animation, his voice work includes the “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” films, “The Angry Birds Movie” franchise, “Inside Out,” “Finding Dory,” “Toy Story 4″ and, next up, “The Cat in the Hat.”
The news of Hader’s “Abbott Elementary” guest spot came as Hader was on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” promoting “The Cat in the Hat,” which opens on Nov. 6.
Hader plays the main character, while Brunson, Bowen Yang (“SNL”), Xochitl Gomez (“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”), Giancarlo Esposito (“Breaking Bad”), America Ferrera (“Superstore”), Matt Berry (“What We Do in The Shadows”) and Paula Pell (“Girls5eva”) also star.
“Abbott Elementary” airs Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m. on ABC and streams the next day on Hulu.
