KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 26 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today congratulated Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his election victory, saying Malaysia looked forward to strengthening ties with the South American nation under his continued leadership.
In a Facebook post, Anwar described Lula’s win as a “historic election victory” and said the Brazilian leader had secured a renewed mandate from voters after a hard-fought contest.
Anwar also praised Lula’s record on social justice and poverty reduction, and his advocacy for developing nations.
“I have always valued our friendship, and I share his conviction that the Global South must have a stronger voice in shaping a fairer international order,” he said.
The prime minister said Malaysia was keen to expand cooperation with Brazil in trade and investment, strengthen engagement between Asean and Latin America, and deepen bilateral ties.
“Malaysia looks forward to working closely with Brazil under President Lula’s continued leadership. There is much we can do together: strengthening trade and investment, advancing cooperation between Asean and Latin America and giving greater substance to the partnership between our two countries,” he said.
