Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi on Saturday called for expanding local production of military vehicles, equipment and spare parts, alongside plans to export selected locally manufactured models and reduce reliance on imports.
Al-Sisi made the remarks during a meeting with Mohamed Abdel Fattah Abu Bakr, Chairperson of the Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI), and Walid Hassan El-Kurdi, Head of the Armed Forces Vehicles Department.
According to the presidency, Al-Sisi inspected several locally designed and manufactured trailers used in technical support operations, which had been developed to serve multiple purposes.
He also reviewed vehicle models that Egypt plans to develop and manufacture locally in cooperation with the AOI, and was briefed on their design and production stages.
The meeting also covered prototypes undergoing testing as part of government plans to expand local manufacturing and production of electric vehicles.
Al-Sisi reviewed cooperation between the AOI and the Armed Forces Vehicles Department to localise industries and reduce reliance on imports, as well as plans to establish a defence industries chamber.
He called for upgrading technical support systems and adopting modern manufacturing technologies for equipment and vehicles used in both military and civilian sectors.
Al-Sisi also directed officials to increase local production of spare parts, work towards self-sufficiency in military vehicles and equipment, and develop the capacity to export selected models.
