KUALA NERANG, Oct 28 — The remains of Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) officer Technical Leading Seaman Mohd Roshaimi Mohd Ridzuan, 41, who died in a boat collision in Perlis waters yesterday, were laid to rest last night.

The burial at Masjid Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah Islamic Cemetery here was completed at 9.45pm, with the MMEA conducting funeral rites and providing a ceremonial escort as a final tribute to the deceased.

Earlier, the remains arrived at the mosque at 8.41pm from Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar after the post-mortem examination was completed.

Funeral prayers were held at the mosque, led by Mohd Izhar Zakaria, and attended by hundreds of congregants, including family members, locals and MMEA personnel.

The remains were then taken to the mosque cemetery, where about 500 people attended the funeral.

After the funeral, MMEA deputy director-general (Operations) Vice-Admiral (Maritime) Mohd Zawawi Abdullah presented the Jalur Gemilang to the deceased’s father.

Also present were Kedah and Perlis MMEA director First Admiral (Maritime) Romli Mustafa and dozens of MMEA personnel.

In the incident at about 11pm on Monday, Mohd Roshaimi was killed while three other officers were injured after the boat they were travelling in was believed to have struck a concrete structure in the waters off Kuala Sungai Padang, near Kuala Perlis, while pursuing a boat suspected of carrying illegal immigrants. — Bernama
