A woman charged with the attempted murder of her baby daughter has appeared in court.

Three people, including the baby, were injured after an alleged stabbing in the West Auckland suburb of Glendene on 4 October 2026.

At the High Court in Auckland on Wednesday, the woman's lawyer, Jenny Verry, entered a not-guilty plea and indicated she'd seek a defence of insanity.

The woman, who had name suppression, appeared via AVL link from the Mason Clinic.

A neighbour at the scene on Kirby St told RNZ at the time she heard a woman crying shortly before midnight on 4 October and asked her partner and brother to go with her to see what had happened.

She said they opened the door and found blood on the floor inside and called 111.

Her brother tended to an injured baby, she said, and applied pressure to a wound it had.

Acting Detective Inspector Megan Goldie said police were called after report of a disorder where a person had been injured.

"Upon arrival police located three people who had suffered injuries that appeared to be consistent with knife wounds."

Justice Mathew Downs set the accused's trial date for 1 November 2027.
