A police officer has been assaulted while arresting a group of men accused of stealing an elderly woman's car in Auckland.
Police Detective Senior Sergeant Anthony Darvill said a man forced his way into the woman's Mount Roskill home and demanded the keys to her Suzuki Swift at about 7.20pm on Wednesday.
"The victim of the burglary was not assaulted but is understandably very shaken at what took place."
He said police followed the vehicle to a house on Bridgeman Avenue.
"There were four occupants in the vehicle as it came to a stop. Units moved in to extract the occupants, who were extremely aggressive."
Darvill alleged one of the passengers resisted arrest and assaulted an officer.
He said a Taser was used on the man and he was arrested along with the three others who were in the car.
"This behaviour is totally unacceptable, and we will hold these men to account in court.
"I acknowledge all our staff who responded, which has resulted in four arrests and the recovery of a stolen vehicle."
A 34-year-old was charged with burglary, assault on a first responder, resisting police, and possession of methamphetamine.
He was expected to appear in court on Thursday.
The 36-year-old accused of driving the car was charged with unlawfully taking a motor vehicle and resisting police.
The two other passengers, aged 28 and 29, were charged with resisting police.
The rest of the men were scheduled to appear in court next week.
Darvill said the police officer had undergone medical checks and was being provided with welfare support.
