New Zealand consular officials in Kathmandu and New Delhi are providing assistance to a New Zealander injured in a helicopter crash in Nepal.

An Indian national was also killed after two choppers collided as they prepared to land in Nepal's Mount Everest region.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed help was being given to the New Zealander but would not say if they were a tourist.

The chief district officer of Solukhumbu district told Reuters the incident took place in the base camp area of Mount Everest, Magar said.
