Several north Wellington schools have gone into lockdown this morning due to police responding to a potential sighting of a person of interest nearby.
Police said cordons were in place on Bannister Ave and nearby schools have been advised to lockdown as a precaution.
Onslow College, St Brigid's School, Johnsonville School and Raroa Normal Intermediate were all advising parents to avoid the area and not to try to pick up students.
St Brigid's said: "Please do not come to the school or phone the school as you will not be attended to and this may cause disruption to the management of this incident and could potentially place yourselves and/or our staff and student's safety at risk."
This message was similar to other schools' announcements.
In a message on its website Onslow College urged parents not to come to the school or phone "as you will not be attended to and this may cause disruption to the management of this incident and could potentially place yourselves and/or our staff and student's safety at risk".
