Man who died at Auckland beach identified

Police have identified the man found dead at an Auckland beach on Sunday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the northern end of Saint Leonards Beach on the North Shore after reports that a man's body had been seen in the water.

A member of the public pulled him from the water and CPR was attempted, but the man was pronounced dead on the beach.

Acting Detective Inspector Megan Goldie said police have notified the man's next of kin and are trying to work out the circumstances of his death.
