A man who was shot by police in West Auckland earlier this week has been charged.
Police were called to Mānutewhau Rd in Massey about 7.49pm on Thursday amid reports the man had a long-barrelled weapon.
He had allegedly also pointed it at a neighbour.
The Armed Offenders Squad entered the house and shot the man.
Acting Superintendent Matt Laurenson said charges against the man had since been laid.
A 55-year-old man was charged with threatening to kill, assaulting a person with a weapon and presenting a firearm at a person. He appeared in the Waitākere District Court on Friday via a bedside hearing and was remanded in custody.
"He underwent surgery yesterday and is now in a stable condition," Laurenson said.
"I want to acknowledge the staff involved in this incident who have worked in difficult circumstances to ensure this matter could be resolved."
An IPCA investigation is underway.
