Five people have been rescued after a boat sank near Ponui Island east of Auckland on Sunday.
Police were alerted to a boat sinking east of the island in the Hauraki Gulf about 5.30pm.
An eagle helicopter located the group in the water before signalling a nearby boat to come and assist.
Police say all five were rescued and taken to shore, with one of the group seen by paramedics.
