A severe thunderstorm and hail warning has been issued for Christchurch, Ashburton and Selwyn, MetService says.
The thunderstorms are expected to lie near Southbridge, Leeston, offshore south of Banks Peninsula, offshore Rakaia River Mouth and Rakaia Huts at 5.07pm and offshore south of Banks Peninsula, Lake Ellesmere and Birdlings Flat
