Some Aucklanders could face a longer-than-usual wait for power to be restored, Vector has warned.

There are a number of localised power cuts on the North Shore and in West Auckland following severe thunderstorms.

Crews were continuing to work across the network to repair faults and restore supply, but Vector warned the significant workload was taking more time.

It urged anyone who saw a fallen power line to stay well clear and report it immediately.

While there were no warnings from MetService on Sunday morning, it said heavy rain was possible across much of the North Island on Tuesday.
