The Armed Offenders Squad have stormed a property in the west Auckland suburb of Massey following reports of a man with a firearm.
An RNZ reporter at the scene said police used a battering ram to enter a house on Manutewhau Road about 10.45pm on Wednesday. They said several loud bangs were heard, accompanied by bright flashes.
An ambulance was then seen driving through a cordon towards the property.
Another ambulance arrived later, and a man sitting up on a stretcher was brought out of the house and loaded into the back of a waiting ambulance soon after 11pm.
RNZ understands his injuries are not life-threatening.
