The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate and senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District, Solomon Adeola, also known as Yayi, says contractors have been mobilised to begin construction of the Ofada-Owode road and a general hospital in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the state.

Adeola disclosed this on Wednesday during a stakeholders’ engagement with critical stakeholders in Obafemi-Owode LGA, held at the City Hall, Owode.

The residents had made the demands earlier during their engagement with Yayi, in which they highlighted infrastructure deficits affecting their communities.

Speaking on behalf of the community development committees, the chairman of the Obafemi-Owode Zonal Community Development Committee, Gboyega Adeleke, called for urgent attention to the poor state of roads in the communities.

He also appealed for the provision of transformers to improve electricity supply, while asking for the operationalisation of health centres built through community efforts.

“It is not about the money, but about the projects. For a long time, we have been using our own money for development projects, including roads, transformers and health centres,” Adeleke said.

He noted that the facilities would help bring healthcare closer to residents and reduce the difficulties people face in accessing medical services.

Adeleke said the community leaders had also submitted a comprehensive document detailing development projects across their communities, with priorities classified according to those requiring attention before the election, within two years and within four years.

He disclosed that the demands included the rehabilitation of roads, provision of transformers, completion and takeover of community-built health centres, as well as the construction and rehabilitation of access and internal roads.

He added that Adeola had promised to complete the other lane of the Mowe-Ofada Road within one month of assuming office, describing the proposed intervention as one of the key demands contained in the community’s document.

Adeleke said the communities would continue to engage political leaders and hold them accountable for their commitments.

He also announced that the residents would reciprocate by voting massively for all the APC candidates in the 2027 election.
Adeola, while responding to the demands of the residents, announced that he had facilitated the construction of the Ofada-Owode road and the Owode General Hospital.

Speaking in Yoruba (now translated), he said, “I have instructed contractors to commence the reconstruction of the Ofada-Owode road, and we will also begin the construction of Owode General Hospital. The contractors have been mobilised to commence work immediately.

“You also asked for three transformers; I will donate 10 transformers, and the solar-powered streetlight will also be made available as soon as possible.”

Describing the proposed hospital as a three-storey facility, Adeola said contractors and project managers had been mobilised for the project, which he promised would meet international standards.

He further assured the stakeholders that the hospital would be completed and inaugurated before May 29, 2027, when he is expected to be sworn in as governor of Ogun State.

He also promised to ensure that border communities were given priority to foster the economic development of the state if he is elected governor of Ogun State in 2027.

Yayi outlined his proposed nine-pillar development agenda, which he called ITESIWAJU, covering infrastructure, tourism, arts and culture, education, security, healthcare, women and youth empowerment, agriculture, job creation, industrialisation and urban development.

He said his proposed administration would also establish a functional border and new-town development initiative to address infrastructure deficits in communities located along Ogun State’s boundaries.

According to him, Obafemi-Owode’s strategic position, bordering two states and connecting several towns in Ogun, makes its development important to the state’s economic prospects.

“If we must compete globally, if we must take advantage of the proximity to Lagos, we need to develop our border towns. We need to work on our border towns. And that, I am promising I will do,” he said.

Yayi assured residents that Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area would receive adequate attention under the proposed agenda, adding that provisions had been made to address the area’s development needs.

He also urged the residents to vote for all APC candidates in the 2027 elections.

The senator said the stakeholders’ document, presented by Adeleke, had been categorised into three areas: issues requiring immediate attention, those to be addressed in the medium term and long-term development challenges.

Meanwhile, in a further update by the zonal CDC, they acknowledged that they had received the solar-powered streetlights as promised by the senator.

The CDC said, “On October 3, our Distinguished Senator, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, graciously promised the Obafemi Owode Zonal CDC 50 units of solar street lights to illuminate our Ultra-Modern Zonal Hall.

“Today, during the Stakeholders’ Meeting held at Owode Egba Town Hall, Engr. Adeleke Adegboyega, Chairman of Obafemi Owode Zonal CDC, humbly reminded our Distinguished Senator of his earlier promise.

“To the glory of God, in less than two hours after the reminder, the 50 solar street lights were delivered! As captured in the video, offloading is already ongoing at the Zonal Secretariat.”

They expressed their appreciation to the Senator for his prompt response to their demands.

The meeting was attended by traditional rulers, youth groups, artisans, transport union workers, as well as political and community leaders.

The engagement provided an opportunity for community representatives to present their infrastructure concerns and seek commitments towards addressing them.
