A Nigerian technology expert based in Warsaw, Poland, Ibrahim Oladigbolu, has helped develop an artificial intelligence-powered platform designed to provide kidney health information and support patients, caregivers and their families.
Oladigbolu, an AI Product Marketing Manager at Diaverum, led the global go-to-market strategy for Kidneydotcom, a kidney health assistant developed using the renal care provider’s clinical expertise and artificial intelligence technology from M42.
The platform, according to Oladigbolu, was designed to address the challenge of accessing reliable and understandable kidney health information, particularly in underserved communities such as Nigeria.
In an account of his experience, Oladigbolu said millions of Nigerians might be living with chronic kidney disease without knowing their status, partly because of inadequate access to healthcare, limited awareness and the late detection of the condition.
He said, “Approximately 24 to 25 million Nigerians are currently living with Chronic Kidney Disease. That’s roughly 10 to 11 per cent of the adult population. And the most painful part? The vast majority of them have no idea.”
Oladigbolu noted that chronic kidney disease was not limited to older people, adding that younger Nigerians in their 30s and 40s were also vulnerable to the condition.
He identified hypertension, diabetes, the use of some herbal preparations and limited access to consistent healthcare as factors contributing to kidney health challenges in Nigeria.
According to him, many people searching online for kidney-related information encounter explanations that are too technical, frightening or unsuitable for their needs, leaving them without the knowledge required to make informed decisions about their health.

Explaining the purpose of kidneydotcom, Oladigbolu described it as a specialised digital health assistant that provides kidney-related information around the clock, free of charge, without requiring users to register or provide payment details.
He said the platform draws on more than 30 years of clinical expertise from Diaverum, with its responses reviewed by nephrologists, while its multilingual features are intended to make information accessible to a wider audience.
Oladigbolu explained that the tool was designed to answer questions about kidney function, dietary choices, early symptoms of kidney disease and situations requiring urgent medical attention.
He added that the platform’s specialised focus distinguished it from general-purpose artificial intelligence tools, which provide information across a wide range of subjects.
Reflecting on the demands of developing the product, Oladigbolu said the project required him to expand his expertise beyond digital marketing into artificial intelligence safety, regulatory compliance, product development, user experience and multilingual communications.
He said he also coordinated content across six languages and represented the platform at medical conferences involving healthcare professionals and patient advocates.
