Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, says security agencies are closing in on perpetrators of attacks in the state, assuring all that the government is determined to bring those responsible to justice.

The governor stated this on Tuesday during the swearing-in of newly appointed special advisers and honorary special advisers at the New Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos.

Confirming Monday night’s attack on Gero community in Jos South Local Government Area, which left seven people dead, Mutfwang described the incident as sad.

“Let me use this occasion to sadly inform you that we had another attack yesterday. It is sad that this happened not too far away from the city, in Gero, behind Gero settlement, and it led to quite a number of casualties,” he said.

He called on communities to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely and credible information.

“We continue to encourage communities that we must increase our vigilance. The security forces cannot be everywhere; they can only cover some places.

“When they get the appropriate information, they will react. But sometimes the reaction comes late because, by the time the information gets to them, it is impossible to have saved the situation,” the governor stated.

Mutfwang expressed optimism that those behind the latest attack would be apprehended, noting that investigators had recovered useful evidence at the scene.

“By the grace of God, we will continue to do our best to apprehend the perpetrators. This particular attack left some bits of evidence that we are trailing,” he said.

The governor also gave an update on efforts to prosecute suspects linked to previous attacks in the state, particularly in Kombun District of Mangu Local Government Area.

“By the grace of God, the leader of that attack is in our net, and we are continuing to put people on trial. We are going to continue to put people on trial.

“The security agencies in recent months have been turning the heat on these criminal elements,” he added.

Mutfwang reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working with security agencies and local communities to strengthen intelligence gathering, prevent further attacks and ensure that perpetrators face the full wrath of the law.
