The Ogun State Police Command has said its operatives, working with the Department of State Services, have neutralised another suspected kidnapper, arrested an 18-year-old suspect and recovered two AK-47 rifles during an operation.
The latest operation brings the number of suspected kidnappers neutralised to two and the total number of recovered AK-47 rifles to three, according to the command.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.
He identified the arrested suspect as Abubakar Yinusa, 18, and said the operation was conducted on November 8, 2026, by a joint security team.
Babaseyi said, “In the latest operation, conducted on 8 November 2026, operatives of the joint security team engaged the suspects in a fierce gun battle, resulting in the neutralisation of one additional suspected kidnapper, the arrest of Abubakar Yinusa and the recovery of two additional AK-47 rifles.”
He added that the development brought “the cumulative number of suspected kidnappers neutralised to two and the total number of recovered AK-47 rifles to three.”
The police spokesperson said the operation was part of ongoing efforts by security agencies and quasi-security outfits to tackle kidnapping in the state.
He said the collaboration had also led to the safe release of 10 passengers abducted at Orita Fufu, Awa-Ijebu, on November 3.
“The victims regained their freedom unharmed on 7 November 2026, following sustained operational pressure on the criminal network,” he stated.
Babaseyi attributed the gains to cooperation among the security agencies, saying, “The gains recorded, including the recent safe release of ten passengers abducted at Orita Fufu, Awa-Ijebu, have been achieved through sustained synergy, intelligence sharing and coordinated efforts among the security agencies and quasi-security outfits.”
He added that “sustained partnership among security agencies remains central to ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and ensure the safety of residents across Ogun State.”
The command also said the police, DSS and other security outfits were committed to bringing those involved in the kidnapping incident to justice.
It urged residents to remain vigilant and report anyone suspected of having gunshot wounds to the nearest police station or other security agencies.
“Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and promptly report anyone sighted with suspicious gunshot wounds to the nearest police station or other security agencies,” the statement added.
