The Edo State Police Command has arrested a suspect, Adedeji Benjamin, over an alleged case of abduction, rape and armed robbery in Benin City.

The command’s spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, saying the incident was reported on October 17, 2026.

“The Command received a distress call from a lady, who reported that she was allegedly abducted by two men from Ihama and taken to Tembogha, where she was raped and robbed at gunpoint,” the statement read.

Ikoedem said operatives of the Aduwawa Division launched an investigation following the report and arrested one of the suspects.

“The toy gun used to commit the crime, and a Lexus Jeep were recovered as exhibits,” she added.

According to the police, Benjamin has confessed to the crime, while efforts are ongoing to arrest his alleged accomplice, who is on the run.

The Commissioner of Police, Patrick Daaor, reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to report suspicious activities to the police.

The police said the suspect would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
