The Nasarawa State Police Command says it has sustained its ongoing clearance operations across identified mountainous terrains in the state as part of its efforts to flush out criminal elements, dismantle criminal hideouts, and enhance the safety and security of residents.
A statement made available by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, on Tuesday in Lafia, the state capital, noted that, in continuation of the exercise, operatives of the Command, comprising personnel of the Police Mobile Force, Counter-Terrorism Unit, Conventional Police Officers and Tactical Teams, conducted clearance operations across mountainous terrains in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area of the state.
According to the statement, the operation covered Tudun Hawa Uku, Kurmin Gogo, Rafin Ayaba and adjoining areas, including the traversing trails within the operational corridor.
Nansel said, “During the operation, five suspects were arrested, while substances suspected to be hard drugs, including ice, and its paraphernalia, were recovered from them as exhibits.
“The suspects are currently in police custody, while investigation is ongoing to establish their level of involvement in criminal activities and determine other possible links.
“The clearance operation is still ongoing, with operatives intensifying efforts to cover additional identified routes and criminal hideouts within the area.”
He noted that the State Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed, urged the operatives to sustain the momentum of the operation, extend the clearance exercise from the affected mountainous areas towards Mada Station and adjoining locations, and ensure that all criminal elements hibernating within the mountains are flushed out.
“The Commissioner further reassured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, while urging members of the public to continue to support security agencies with timely and credible information that could aid ongoing operations,” the statement added.
