A non-political organisation, Assurance Grassroots Organisation, has empowered 120 residents of Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State with vocational equipment and safety materials to cushion the effects of prevailing economic challenges and improve their livelihoods.
The programme featured the distribution of 10 sewing machines, 60 motorcycle helmets and 50 knapsack sprayers to support beneficiaries in their respective occupations, promote economic self-reliance and enhance their capacity to contribute to community development.
Speaking at the event, the organisation’s chairman and Senior Legislative Aide to the senator representing Ogun West, Yinka Alade, said the initiative was conceived to complement efforts by the federal and state governments, as well as ongoing development interventions in Ogun West senatorial district.

According to a statement on Thursday, Alade said the programme was inspired by the need to support President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun’s ISEYA development agenda and the infrastructure development initiatives of the senator representing Ogun West, Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.
He said, “This organisation believes that supporting people at the grassroots level remains an effective way of improving living standards and promoting sustainable development.
“This intervention is intended to complement government efforts by providing practical assistance to residents facing economic difficulties.”
Political leaders and stakeholders at the event, including the Ogun State APC ex-officio member, Wahab Elegbede; the APC Ayetoro Zone Chairman, Alhaji Ganiyu Tijani; the consultant to Governor Dapo Abiodun, Oyede Oke; and Mr Adebayo Ipinrereoluwa from Odeda, commended the organisation for the initiative.
In their separate remarks, they described the empowerment programme as a commendable intervention that aligned with the broader objectives of the federal and state governments.
They also stressed the importance of initiatives that directly address residents’ economic needs, particularly through the provision of equipment to support small businesses, agricultural activities and other livelihoods.
The beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the organisation, describing the intervention as timely and beneficial to their economic well-being.
One of them, Abdullahi Omobolanle, thanked the organisers for remembering residents at the grassroots and providing materials to support their daily activities.
Similarly, the Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, Yewa North Chapter, Abiodun Adeniji, and Mr Wole Olaleye, in their separate remarks, appreciated the gesture and prayed for the continued success of the organisation and its leadership.
They also pledged their support for government initiatives aimed at promoting development and improving residents’ welfare.
The highlight of the programme was the presentation of the empowerment items, comprising 10 sewing machines for vocational use, 60 motorcycle helmets to promote safety among motorcycle riders and 50 knapsack sprayers to support agricultural activities.
The programme also featured a sensitisation exercise on the ongoing collection of Permanent Voter Cards, during which eligible voters were encouraged to visit designated offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission to collect their cards and prepare to participate in future elections.
The organisers emphasised the importance of civic participation and urged eligible residents to take advantage of the collection exercise.
The initiative further underscored the role of community-based organisations in complementing government interventions through targeted empowerment programmes and grassroots engagement.
