Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has said natural resources alone cannot guarantee national prosperity, stressing the need for entrepreneurship, skills, knowledge and intensive production to achieve sustainable economic growth.
Makinde stated this on Wednesday at the 10th anniversary celebration and inauguration of the global headquarters of CapitalSage Holdings in Ibadan.
According to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria, the governor said that “although Nigeria was richly endowed with natural resources, sustainable economic prosperity depended on entrepreneurs’ willingness to take risks, innovate and invest.”
He stressed that states and nations that had “achieved real prosperity did so by moving beyond resource abundance to building human capital and productive enterprises that create jobs and value.”
Makinde said Oyo State’s economic transformation agenda was anchored on supporting “entrepreneurs and private sector-led industrialisation” as a pathway to shared prosperity.
He assured investors of his administration’s continued support through enhanced security, investment facilitation and other measures aimed at promoting business expansion and economic growth.

The governor urged stakeholders to recognise the role of private businesses in creating economic opportunities, generating employment and strengthening local industries.
Describing the inauguration as a celebration of entrepreneurship, Makinde congratulated CapitalSage Holdings on building a business conglomerate comprising about 20 companies.
He said the location of the conglomerate’s global headquarters in Ibadan would further reinforce the city’s position as a leading business hub and investment destination.
The governor also expressed confidence in the state’s ability to compete favourably with Lagos in attracting investments and hosting major business operations.
He reiterated his “administration’s commitment to supporting businesses to grow and expand,” describing a “thriving private sector as key to the state’s economic future.”
