Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has commissioned veteran Nollywood actress Sola Sobowale’s elderly care facility, Joseph and Esther Homes, in Ibadan, alongside the unveiling of her book, Built From the Break.

The event, held at the facility in the Akobo area of the city during the week, attracted prominent personalities from the entertainment industry, politics and other sectors.

Among those present were veteran actor Adebayo Salami, popularly known as Oga Bello; filmmakers Kunle Afolayan and Femi Adebayo; actor Ibrahim Chatta; and former Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Steve Ayorinde.

Named after Sobowale’s parents, Joseph and Esther Homes is designed to provide accommodation, professional care and support for older people in a safe and comfortable environment. Its tagline is “Live Well, Age Well, Thrive Together”.

Speaking at the ceremony, Makinde commended the actress for translating her concern for older people into an initiative aimed at promoting their welfare and dignity.

He urged wealthy Nigerians and people in positions of influence to use their resources to improve society rather than oppress others.

The governor also announced plans to extend the access road leading to the facility and install solar-powered streetlights to improve accessibility and security around the premises.

The ceremony took an emotional turn when Sobowale was moved to tears during a tribute celebrating her vision, determination and commitment to the project. Her daughter was also seen consoling her.

The actress’s venture into elderly care is rooted in her personal experience. After leaving Nigeria in 2004, she reportedly worked as a caregiver in London, where she obtained professional qualifications and eventually rose to become a team leader.
