LG Electronics has reiterated its commitment to strengthening economic and cultural relations between Nigeria and South Korea through technology innovation, as the company showcased its products at the Republic of Korea’s National Day celebration in Abuja.

The event, hosted recently by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea under the theme, ‘One Heaven. One Earth. One Humanity,’ brought together government officials, members of the diplomatic community, business leaders and development partners to celebrate bilateral relations and explore opportunities for cooperation.

LG Electronics used the occasion to showcase technologies designed to improve convenience, connectivity and energy efficiency, including premium OLED displays, soundbars, xboom audio products, artificial intelligence-powered home appliances and smart living solutions.

The exhibition provided guests with an opportunity to interact with the products and experience how emerging technologies could support more efficient and connected lifestyles.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of LG Electronics, Hyoung Ji, said innovation was most valuable when it translated into practical improvements in people’s lives.

“Technology is most meaningful when it creates positive experiences for people. What made this event special was seeing guests engage openly, ask questions and discover how innovation can address everyday challenges. As a Korean brand that has shared a long journey with Nigeria, we remain committed to delivering solutions that make life better while fostering stronger connections between our two countries,” he said.

The celebration also highlighted opportunities for deeper cooperation between Nigeria and South Korea in technology, education, trade, entrepreneurship and skills development.

In his keynote address, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Nigeria, Jeong Yo-an, emphasised the importance of sustained collaboration between both countries, identifying innovation, human capital development and strategic partnerships as important drivers of sustainable growth.

He pointed to companies such as LG Electronics as examples of how Korean businesses could deepen bilateral ties by converting technological innovations into practical solutions, particularly in home appliances and energy-efficient products.

Speaking on behalf of Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, the ministry’s Chief of Protocol, Amb. Babagana Wakil, urged both countries to deepen collaboration in industrial manufacturing, technology transfer, agriculture, education and maritime development.

He highlighted the potential for both countries to deepen their relationship through practical partnerships that support economic development and knowledge exchange.

Beyond the diplomatic engagements, the celebration featured Korean cuisine, traditional performances and Taekwondo demonstrations, providing opportunities for cultural exchange among participants.

The growing popularity of Korean culture in Nigeria and the expanding global influence of Nigerian creative industries were also highlighted as avenues for strengthening people-to-people relations between the two countries.

For LG Electronics, its participation in the event reflected the role of private-sector companies in promoting international partnerships through technology, innovation and shared experiences.

South Korea’s National Foundation Day commemorates the founding of the Korean nation and its founding ideals, commonly associated with the aspiration to benefit all humanity. The Abuja celebration provided a platform for highlighting the shared interests and opportunities that continue to shape relations between Nigeria and South Korea.
