Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has redeployed the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Abdullahi Ibrahim Waiya, to the Ministry of Youth and Sports in a cabinet reshuffle that also saw six newly appointed commissioners assigned portfolios.
Waiya’s redeployment followed the swearing-in of six commissioners, three advisers and 19 permanent secretaries by the governor on Friday.
Similarly, Hamza Kachaco, who previously headed the Ministry of Solid Minerals Resources, has been moved to the Ministry of Environment.
The changes leave the Ministries of Information and Internal Affairs and Solid Minerals Resources without substantive commissioners.
Announcing the new portfolios shortly after the swearing-in ceremony, Yusuf said the six commissioners had been assigned ministries to fill vacancies in the State Executive Council.
“The six commissioners had been assigned ministries to fill vacancies in the State Executive Council,” the governor said.
The newly inaugurated commissioners include Air Commodore Salisu Yusha’u (retd.), who was assigned to the Ministry of Internal Security and Special Services, while Ibrahim Namadi Dala will oversee the Ministry of Commerce and Investment.
Others include Professor Sani Lawan Manunfashi, appointed Commissioner for Higher Education, and Muktar Ishaq Yakasai, who will head the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
Dr Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa was assigned to the Ministry of Science and Technology, while Idris Garba Mustapha will oversee the Ministry of Special Duties.
“The appointments, redeployments and other administrative adjustments were intended to strengthen government institutions, improve administrative efficiency and reposition key ministries for better service delivery,” the governor added.
He urged the newly sworn-in commissioners, advisers and permanent secretaries to discharge their responsibilities with dedication, integrity and commitment to public service.
“I’m urging the appointees to prioritise public interest, transparency and accountability, while working collectively to advance his administration’s development agenda,” Yusuf charged.
He congratulated the appointees and urged them to work together to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Kano State.
