The Nigerian Army has deployed a new battalion and an artillery regiment to Kano State as part of efforts to strengthen security and improve its response to emerging threats.
The General Officer Commanding, 1 Division, Nigerian Army, and Commander, Sector 1, Joint Task Force, Operation Fansan Yamma, Major General Abubakar Sadique Muhammad Wase, said the newly established units required dedication, resilience and adequate support to achieve their operational objectives.
Wase stated this during an operational assessment visit to the 24 Battalion in Tudun Wada and the 311 Artillery Regiment in Dambatta, Kano State, between October 28 and 29, 2026.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 1 Division, Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, the GOC reassured the troops that the division was working closely with the Kano State Government to accelerate the units’ attainment of full operational capability.
“Being fledgling formations, these units require collective resilience and dedication to achieve the desired objectives behind their establishment,” Wase was quoted as saying.
He added that the welfare of personnel and the provision of logistical support remained priorities as the Army worked to make the formations fully operational.
The GOC, who was accompanied by the Commander, 3 Brigade, Brigadier General Saka Jimoh, also met with local government officials in Dambatta and Tudun Wada during the visit.
He urged the host communities to cooperate with the military and support the newly established formations to improve security across the state.
Wase stressed the importance of collaboration between the military and local communities in creating a secure environment for residents.
The Army said the establishment of the two units was part of its broader expansion and restructuring initiative aimed at strengthening the country’s security architecture and enhancing operational responsiveness.
The visit provided an opportunity for the GOC to assess the units’ operational readiness and identify areas requiring support to enable them to discharge their responsibilities effectively.
