Nigerian celebrity chef, Hilda Baci, has expressed displeasure over comments suggesting that her success is driven by her partner, Damilola “Dapper” Akinwunmi, saying the remarks reflect society’s attitude towards women and their achievements.
Baci made the remarks in an interview shared by Goldmyne TV on Saturday.
The chef, who has gained international recognition for her culinary achievements and Guinness World Records, said the comments sometimes upset her, although she does not necessarily find them annoying.
“I wouldn’t say it annoys me, but it is sometimes upsetting. But I think that it just goes to show where we are as people and what the mindset is, and that also tells how much work and further we need to go,” she said.
Baci, who is in a relationship with music executive Akinwunmi, said the remarks had made her more intentional about representing herself and other women.
“That’s why I’m so intentional about putting in so much effort in representing myself, representing women and just giving more women an opportunity to do better for themselves as well,” she added.
Akinwunmi, popularly known as Dapper, is a music executive and entrepreneur. He is the founder of Dapper Music and Dapper Group.
Baci has built a public profile through her culinary business and record-breaking cooking feats, including her Guinness World Records achievements.
