A fire has destroyed a building comprising three-bedroom flats in Kangile Village, Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State.

In a statement on Monday, the spokesperson for the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, said firefighters arrived at the scene at 8:09 am after receiving a distress call about the incident.

He said the fire had engulfed the building before firefighters could bring it under control because the incident was reported late.

“Unfortunately, due to the late notification of the incident, the fire had spread throughout the building before the situation could be brought under control,” the statement partly read.

The service said the fire caused extensive damage to the building, adding that its cause had yet to be determined as investigations were ongoing.

“The cause of the fire has not yet been ascertained, as investigations are still ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the statement added.
