Enugu Air has announced plans to commence a flight operations to London Gatwick on 10 December, 2026, in a move expected to strengthen international connectivity for passengers travelling from Enugu and other parts of Nigeria to the United Kingdom.

The airline disclosed that tickets for the service were already available for booking, adding that the new route would provide passengers with another international travel option.

According to a statement, made available to The PUNCH over the weekend, the service, which will be operated in partnership with Omni-Blu Aviation, is part of the Enugu State Government’s efforts to position the state as an international aviation and economic hub.

The Enugu state -owned airline was founded on 7 July, 2025 and suffered its most noticeable incident when it was involved in a runway incursion at Benin airport on 23 July, 2026.

The airline said the London-bound flights will be operated four times weekly using an Airbus A330-200 aircraft sourced from EuroAtlantic Airways of Portugal under an Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance and Insurance arrangement.

The development is expected to particularly benefit travellers from the South-East, who often have to travel to Lagos or other airports to connect to international destinations.

Commenting on the development, Enugu Air’s Chief Executive Officer, Tolu Ita, described the London service as a major milestone in the airline’s expansion plans and the state’s ambition to deepen its global connections.

He said the service would enable passengers from Enugu to begin their international journeys from their home airport rather than endure the additional cost and inconvenience of travelling to other cities to catch international flights.

Ita said, “The commencement of our London Gatwick service reflects our commitment to expanding international connectivity and the vision of His Excellency, Governor Peter Mbah, to connect Enugu to more opportunities across the world.

“Of particular importance is ensuring that passengers from Enugu can begin their international journey to London from their home airport, Akanu Ibiam International Airport. We are proud to make the journey from Enugu to London Gatwick a reality for our passengers.”

He added that the new route would open up opportunities for business travellers, tourists, students and Nigerians in the diaspora seeking easier access between the two countries.

Also speaking on the partnership, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Omni-Blu Aviation, Akinola Olateru, said the collaboration was aimed at improving Nigeria’s international air connectivity and providing more travel opportunities for passengers.

Olateru said, “Our partnership with Enugu Air demonstrates our commitment to expanding Nigeria’s international air connectivity and creating more opportunities for passengers travelling between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.”

On the flight schedule, Enugu Air’s Chief Operating Officer, Ugonna Agubuokwu, said operating four flights weekly would give passengers greater flexibility when planning their trips.

He said, “With four flights weekly, we are providing passengers with greater flexibility and more convenient options when planning their journeys to and from London Gatwick.”
