Africa’s youth unemployment challenge has pushed more young people to look beyond traditional career paths, with technology and digital skills increasingly becoming part of the search for new opportunities. TS Academy, an African technology education platform, has partnered with music executive and Mavin Records founder Don Jazzy to expand access to training for young people seeking careers in the sector.
The partnership will support TS Academy’s scholarship initiatives, learning-device programmes and student empowerment efforts, with a focus on young Africans seeking to develop skills in software engineering, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data, product management, design and other technology disciplines.
The academy says the partnership is particularly relevant to young people who are interested in technology but face practical difficulties getting into training. While some struggle with the cost of tuition, others who secure places on programmes may not have the laptops or other devices required to participate fully.
One of the initiatives under the partnership is the Don Jazzy Tech Scholarship 2027, which will provide selected applicants with up to 100% tuition support and an additional discount on application fees. The scholarship will run across TS Academy’s 2027 cohorts, with additional laptop and data support available to a limited number of enrolled students.
TS Academy has awarded scholarships to more than 50,000 students across Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and other African countries since its inception. It has also provided laptops and other learning devices to students who need them to participate in training.
More than 50,000 aspiring technology professionals went through the academy’s programmes across 10 countries in the past year, according to TS Academy. The organisation is working towards a longer-term goal of empowering one million Africans with digital and technology skills.
The academy’s work also extends beyond technical training. Its programmes include mentorship, practical projects, internships and career support, giving students opportunities to gain experience and better understand how to apply their skills after completing their training.
Don Jazzy, whose work has included developing artists such as Rema, Ayra Starr and Tiwa Savage, said young people should have access to different routes to building a career, including technology.
“There are a lot of young people out there trying to figure out what they can do with their lives. Some will find their way through music, some through sports, some through business, and some will find out they’re actually very good at technology. Nobody should feel like there’s only one path to a good life. If you have an interest in technology and you want to learn, you should get the chance to develop that skill and see where it takes you, he said.

Adetola Durojaiye, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of TS Academy, said the challenges faced by students were often practical ones that could determine whether they were able to begin and complete their training.
“We see students who are ready to learn but cannot afford tuition, and others who have the ambition but do not have the device they need. Those are real challenges, and they are part of why we have built support around our training. We want people to have the opportunity to learn, develop the skill, and find a way to use it,” Durojaiye said.
The partnership will support existing mechanisms through which TS Academy helps students overcome those barriers. Don Jazzy’s involvement will include support for scholarships, access to learning devices, student empowerment programmes and selected academy engagements.
TS Academy’s programmes are currently available across 10 countries, with the academy continuing to expand its reach while pursuing its target of empowering one million Africans with digital and technology skills.
For the young people seeking a route into the sector, the focus remains on acquiring skills they can develop and apply beyond the classroom, with scholarships and access to learning devices helping to remove some of the barriers that can prevent them from getting started.
