A 100-level female student of Plateau State University, Bokkos, who was abducted by gunmen in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, has regained her freedom.
PUNCH Online reports that the student was abducted on Saturday night at an off-campus residential area in the university community, while another person was shot and injured during the attack.
Confirming the development to journalists in Jos on Tuesday, the Acting Public Relations Officer of the university, Masara Kim, said the student was recovered after she was abandoned by her abductors.
“She was abandoned by her captors after the university, in collaboration with a joint security team, launched an operation that forced them to flee on sighting the advancing team,” Kim said.
He said the victim had been taken to a hospital for medical examination and was currently receiving medical attention.
Kim added that the university was working with security agencies to ensure the safety of students and staff within and around the institution.
He commended the security personnel for their prompt response to the incident.
The Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, Alabo Alfred, had yet to respond to inquiries by our correspondent regarding the incident as of the time of filing this report.
