2027: Yari targets 800,000 Ekiti votes for Tinubu

Former Zmafar State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari

The Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council and former Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari, has urged voters in Ekiti State to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, saying the President has performed well and deserves a second term.

Yari made the appeal on Thursday during the APC campaign rally in Ekiti State, where he urged residents to deliver at least 800,000 votes for Tinubu, representing about 90 per cent of the expected votes in the state.

Speaking at the rally, which was monitored on television by our correspondent, Yari said Tinubu had not forgotten Ekiti State, citing investments in education, road construction, youth support and women’s empowerment.

“Asiwaju has not forgotten the people of Ekiti. He has done his best by introducing schools and universities, constructing roads, providing educational support to youths and empowering women, among other initiatives,” he said.

Yari recalled that Ekiti gave Tinubu 80 per cent of its votes during the 2023 presidential election, urging the state to increase its support in 2027.

“Today, out of 1,080,000 registered voters, more than 900,000 have collected their Permanent Voter Cards. I want to make a request, which is also the request of the President.

“We are looking for 800,000 votes, representing about 90 per cent of the votes cast. That is why I am asking for 90 per cent,” he said.

He noted that candidates who contested against Governor Biodun Oyebanji in previous elections, including those of the Peoples Democratic Party, Allied Peoples Movement and Social Democratic Party, were present at the rally to demonstrate solidarity with the governor and support Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Yari urged Ekiti leaders to mobilise residents, saying the President had promised to do more for the state if re-elected.

He also challenged opposition parties to explain how their policies would differ from those of the Tinubu administration, claiming that the government had reduced inflation and food prices by more than 50 per cent.

“We in Northern Nigeria consider Bola Ahmed Tinubu one of our own, just as much as the people of Ekiti, Ondo, Oyo, Osun and Lagos do.

“Bola Ahmed Tinubu has supported our people and helped them become number one citizens of this country on three occasions. Therefore, we in the North are ready to support Asiwaju in 2027, and we are going to deliver for him from A to Z,” he said.

Yari urged Ekiti residents to ensure that the efforts of the administration were not wasted, adding, “The labour of this great democrat cannot be allowed to go in vain.”

Tinubu is seeking re-election in the January 16, 2027, presidential poll scheduled by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
