The Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has flagged off the All Progressives Grand Alliance campaign rally, pledging to deliver at least 50 per cent votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election and stepping up the 5,000 votes the President garnered in the state during the 2023 presidential election.
Soludo made the declaration while addressing party candidates and supporters during the campaign flag-off ceremony held at Ekwueme Square, Awka, on Friday, alongside his deputy, members of the state House of Assembly as well as state executive council.
He stated that opposition parties were afraid of APGA’s strength and defeat, while reiterating that APGA has adopted President Tinubu as it’s candidate as a gesture of gratitude for the progress and infrastructural improvements seen throughout Anambra State during his leadership.
He said, “Today, we adopt the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, as our candidate. We will work hard to deliver 50 per cent of the state’s votes to him in the 2027 presidential election.
“Tinubu has demonstrated love and concern for the Igbo people, particularly the people of Anambra State. The President had appointed several Anambra indigenes to strategic positions in Lagos State during his tenure as governor.
“APGA had adopted the presidential candidate of the ruling party in previous elections. And the party’s decision to support Tinubu in 2027 is a continuation of that political arrangement.
“We don’t have a presidential candidate. Tinubu is our candidate. Anambra State recorded fewer than 5,000 votes for Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election, yet the President has continued to address some of the challenges confronting the state and the South-East region.
“We gave him only about 5,000 votes, and yet he is doing wonderful works in the state.”
He urged Ndi Anambra to support Tinubu in the 2027 election, arguing that doing so would give the state and the South-East a stronger opportunity to engage with the Federal Government and negotiate for their development.
According to him, the strategic alignment at the national level aims to consolidate progress while sustaining strong governance structures across the state and the entire region.
The governor urged the party supporters and members to step out and conduct a vigorous campaign to tell the people the truth, drawing the line between “reason and emotion”.
“We need to vote for him in order to sit with the government at the centre and negotiate for the development of the South-East and Anambra State. We are targeting 50 per cent for the President,” Soludo added.
During the exercise, Soludo also officially unveiled over 253 candidates as standard-bearers across the federation as part of its strategic preparations for the upcoming elections.
He also conducted a symbolic presentation of party flags to 44 candidates representing various legislative constituencies in the state.
The flag recipients included three senatorial candidates, 11 candidates for the House of Representatives, and 30 candidates running for seats in the State House of Assembly.
Also speaking, the APGA National Chairman, Chief Sly Ezeokenwa, expressed overwhelming confidence in APGA, urging all candidates to take the party’s manifesto to every ward and voting district, reaffirming Anambra as APGA land.
Flags presentation to various APGA candidates formed the highlights of the event.
