A former member of the House of Representatives, Sam Onuigbo, has urged Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, saying a second term would help sustain economic reforms and complete major infrastructure projects.

According to a post on his Facebook page on Tuesday, the President of Globe Legislators made the call on Monday in Umuahia, Abia State, during an interactive session with members of the group.

The Patron of the Strategic Mobilisation Network for Tinubu Continuity 2027 added that abandoning ongoing reforms midway could undermine the progress recorded by the administration.

“President Bola Tinubu has laid the foundations for sustainable economic growth and national development and deserves to be strengthened.

“His re-election will consolidate economic reforms and infrastructure gains, ” he said.

The former lawmaker cited the removal of the petrol subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange market as difficult but necessary decisions to address structural weaknesses in the economy.

While acknowledging the hardship caused by the policies, particularly higher transportation and food costs, Onuigbo said the government must ensure that economic gains translate into better living conditions for Nigerians.

“The ultimate objective must be to translate improved macroeconomic indicators into increased purchasing power, lower living costs and better welfare for ordinary Nigerians,” he said.

He also highlighted increased crude oil production, the Dangote Refinery, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund and projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway as initiatives requiring sustained commitment.

Onuigbo said continuity would allow the government to complete ongoing projects and ensure that investments already made in national development yielded lasting benefits.

However, he said support for the administration should not mean overlooking its shortcomings, urging the government to improve policy implementation and ensure that ordinary Nigerians benefit from its programmes.

He charged members of the mobilisation network to engage communities, market associations, students, artisans and religious leaders ahead of the 2027 elections.

“Continuity means sustaining policies and reforms that were producing results; consolidation involves strengthening existing gains and ensuring wider public benefits; completion requires finishing ongoing projects and fulfilling outstanding commitments, while prosperity represents the ultimate objective of national development,” he said.

Onuigbo urged members to renew their commitment to mobilising support for Tinubu’s re-election.

“We are not asking Nigerians to believe that everything is perfect. We are asking them to believe that Nigeria’s progress is worth sustaining and that the work already started deserves to be completed,” he said.
