Police in Palnadu district asked YSRCP leaders, including former Minister Vidadala Rajani in Chilakaluripet and former legislators Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy in Macherla and Bolla Brahmanaidu in Vinukonda, to remain at home until polling concluded in their respective municipalities on Sunday.

At the same time, the police said that they have been allowing all voters, including leaders to cast their votes in their respective polling booths, even though they were asked to remain at homes in view of ensuring smooth elections.

Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police Jagadish Adahalli told The Hindu that preventive measures had been strengthened in view of previous election-related violations in the district. These included police pickets, binding over troublemakers, asking potential troublemakers to leave the towns and intensified surveillance.

SP inspection

The SP inspected polling stations, including sensitive booths in Sattenapalli, to review polling arrangements and security measures. Special surveillance was maintained in sensitive, highly sensitive and problematic areas to ensure peaceful polling and enable voters to exercise their franchise without fear.

Police personnel monitored queues, facilitated the smooth conduct of polling and extended assistance to elderly voters, persons with disabilities and those unable to walk. Continuous patrolling and vehicle checks were conducted to prevent untoward incidents.

Mr. Jagadish issued instructions to personnel through wireless communications, directing them to remain alert, coordinate with election officials and take legal action against anyone disrupting public order. The police appealed to voters to participate freely in a peaceful atmosphere.
