Minister-in-charge of Mysuru district Yathindra Siddaramaiah on Saturday inaugurated a new Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at K.R. Hospital in Mysuru and also reviewed the hospital’s functioning, with a focus on improving patient care and strengthening infrastructure.

The new 15-bed ICU has been established to provide quality emergency and critical care, particularly to patients from economically weaker and middle-income families. The facility is expected to strengthen the hospital’s critical care infrastructure and benefit patients from Mysuru and neighbouring regions in need of intensive medical attention.

Later, chairing a meeting with medical officers and senior staff of the hospital, Dr. Yathindra reviewed its functioning, administrative matters, staffing requirements and various challenges affecting its operations.

He said providing quality healthcare to the public, particularly the poor and economically weaker sections, was a priority responsibility of the government. People dependent on government hospitals should receive timely and quality treatment without facing any inconvenience, he said.

He sought details from officials about shortages of doctors, nurses and other staff, besides gaps in medical facilities and basic infrastructure. Directing officials to identify the problems on priority and take necessary steps to address them, Dr. Yathindra stressed the need for better coordination among doctors, nursing staff and the administration for efficient management and timely medical care.

He said continuous monitoring would be undertaken to ensure there were no lapses in public healthcare delivery. Steps would also be taken to further strengthen K.R. Hospital and develop it into a more efficient and public-friendly healthcare centre.

Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Yukesh Kumar, Superintendent of Police Mallikarjun Baladandi, K.R. Hospital medical superintendent Shobha, dean Mudassir, RMO Nayaz Pasha and senior doctors and hospital staff were present.
