Two men were arrested by the Special Operations Team (SOT) of LB Nagar Zone and Pocharam IT Corridor police on Saturday for allegedly transporting 60 kg of marijuana from Odisha to Mumbai via Hyderabad. The police seized the contraband, valued at approximately ₹30 lakh, from a car near Annojiguda village in Ghatkesar mandal.

The arrested persons were identified as Mohammed Amer, 28, a resident of Hafeez Baba Nagar, Bandlaguda, and Mohd Imran Uddin, 35, a resident of Toor Colony, Chandrayangutta.

Acting on information, the police teams conducted vehicle checks near Masala Company on the outskirts of Annojiguda village. At around 11.30 a.m. on November 7, they intercepted a Maruti Suzuki SX4 and checked the vehicle. They found 60 packets containing approximately 60 kg of marijuana concealed behind the rear seat and apprehended the two occupants.

During questioning, the accused told police that they had procured the marijuana from Purnachandra Mohapatra, a resident of Odisha, and were transporting it to Yasmeen Chand Sayyed, alias Chand Bhai, in Dharavi, Mumbai. Both the supplier and the intended receiver are yet to be arrested.

According to investigators, the consignment was purchased at approximately ₹7,000 per kg and was intended to be sold at around ₹15,000 per kg. The supplier had allegedly provided marijuana to the two men on two previous occasions as well.

Amer was previously involved in five NDPS cases and had been detained under the Preventive Detention Act on two occasions. Imran Uddin was previously involved in four cases, including two NDPS cases.

Police have started an investigation to trace the supplier and intended receiver and identify others involved in the inter-State trafficking network.
