The Telangana Prisons Department launched the Phyllis and Krystal Method Psychotherapy Programme at the Special Prison for Women in Hyderabad to promote mental health, emotional well-being and psychological resilience among women inmates.

The programme was inaugurated by DG of Prisons and Correctional Services Soumya Mishra, in the presence of facilitators Shaguna Sinha and Shivani Sinha Sola, founders of Devas Unlimited, and DIG of Prisons D. Srinivas, on Thursday.

Addressing the inmates, Ms. Soumya Mishra said mental health was as important as physical health and that imprisonment and separation from family members could lead to stress, anxiety, sadness and other emotional challenges. She said the psychotherapy sessions would help inmates understand their emotions, manage stress, develop positive thinking and build self-confidence.

She encouraged the inmates to actively participate in the sessions, adding that their past did not determine their future and that everyone deserved an opportunity to change and begin life afresh.

“The objective was to ensure that inmates could return to society with confidence, dignity and the ability to lead better lives,” said the DG.

Programme Manager Anusha Vadlamudi, counsellors Sridharani Majji and SudhaRani Majji, Superintendent of the Special Prison for Women T. Venkata Lakshmi Srinath, Deputy Superintendent of Jails B. Amaravathi and other prison staff attended the programme.
