Malkajgiri MP Eatala Rajender has demanded that the State government shut down the Jawahar Nagar dumpyard and relocate the solid waste management facility, citing growing health concerns and environmental pollution affecting residents in the surrounding areas.

Launching a four-day padayatra in the Jawahar Nagar region on Tuesday, the senior BJP leader said the march aimed to highlight hardships faced by people living near the landfill and to press for a permanent solution to the issue. The yatra began near Edulabad lake, where Mr.Rajender interacted with local residents and listened to their grievances.

He pointed out that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who had earlier represented the Malkajgiri parliamentary constituency, was well aware of the problems associated with the dumpyard but his government was taking no concrete action over the past two-and-a-half years to address the issue.

He said he had personally raised the matter with the Chief Minister and urged the State government to stop dumping municipal waste at the site. Citing various studies, he claimed that toxic emissions and groundwater contamination from the landfill posed serious risks to public health.

Mr Rajender said, “Modern technologies are available for scientific management and processing of municipal waste. But the State government has shown little interest in implementing them. I will also seek support from the Union government for addressing the problem.”

Joining the padayatra, Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao praised Mr. Rajender for taking up the issue and described it as a matter concerning the health and well-being of future generations. He claimed that the National Green Tribunal had issued directions regarding relocation of the dumpyard and scientific capping of the landfill.

Mr. Rao alleged that the facility was operating without adequate adherence to environmental norms, putting the health of local residents at risk.
