The probe into the alleged synagogue arson case has been intensified by constituting a special investigation team (SIT) under the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ernakulam Central, in accordance with the directions of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Kochi City), Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has said.
He was replying to a submission on the matter raised in the Assembly by T.J. Vinod, MLA. Mr. Chennithala said the Ernakulam Central Police had registered a case under Section 326(g) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against Ebin B. Paul, a native of Ikkaranad. The Minister further said that Sections 15 and 16 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) had also been added to the case after investigators obtained information suggesting possible extremist links of the accused.
