Concerned over recent fluctuations in broiler chicken prices and rising input costs, poultry industry leaders from across the country have called for coordinated efforts to stabilise the market and maintain a benchmark price of ₹110 per kg for live chicken.
The decision was taken at a high-level meeting held in Hyderabad on Monday (November 2, 2026), where representatives of the All India Poultry Breeders Association (AIPBA), Pan India Breeders Coordination Committee (PIBCC) and several State poultry associations discussed the challenges confronting the poultry sector.
Decline largely seasonal
Industry leaders observed that the recent decline in chicken prices was largely seasonal, coinciding with reduced consumption during the festival period, and urged stakeholders not to panic. They resolved to meet government representatives and policymakers in New Delhi next week to discuss these issues and other pressing challenges facing the poultry industry.
The leaders emphasised the need for policy interventions to address rising feed costs, particularly by facilitating duty-free imports of non-genetically modified (non-GMO) maize. Highlighting the abundant availability of soybean in the market, the participants urged poultry farmers and other stakeholders not to panic over the recent price fluctuations, which they described as temporary.
The challenges posed by rising maize prices amid shortages in availability attributed to the impact of El Niño conditions and their impact on poultry production costs were discussed at the meeting. Industry representatives stressed the need for collective efforts to ensure price stability and protect the interests of poultry farmers and other stakeholders.
AIPBA chairman Bahadur Ali, PIBCC convenor Vasanth Kumar Shetty, Telangana Poultry Breeders Association (TPBA) president A. Tirupathi Reddy and other industry representatives attended the meeting.
