The Kerala High Court building.
Save University Campaign Committee chairperson R. S. Sasikumar has approached the Kerala High Court seeking measurement of the land housing the Communist Party of India (Marxist)’s [CPI(M)] former State headquarters, AKG Centre in Thiruvananthapuram (now AKG Memorial Research Centre).
Mr. Sasikumar sought the land survey in connection with an alleged encroachment on Kerala University’s land. The plea was filed as an interim application within a public interest litigation (PIL) challenging the alleged assignment of 15 cents of university land to the centre.
The latest plea stated that Revenue department officials failed to survey the AKG Centre’s land while assessing the university’s land. The survey was initiated based on a previous court order. Mr. Sasikumar further alleged that while the centre was granted only 15 cents of land, the CPI(M) had taken possession of additional land, including Puramboke land.
The plea also sought to issue a directive to the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation to produce the building plan, sketch, and license copy, if a building license was issued, of the centre.
