Malkajgiri MP Eatala Rajender on Wednesday said he had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking intervention in the Jawaharnagar garbage dumpyard issue, and asserted that the Centre is willing to provide assistance if the Telangana government prepares and submits a Detailed Project Report (DPR).

Mr. Rajender warned of a mass agitation if authorities fail to address public concerns. On Day 2 of his four-day walkathon to highlight the health and environmental hazards posed by the dumpyard near residential colonies, he assured locals of full support in pursuing the issue.

He visited Rampally lake and its surroundings, accusing successive governments of failing to protect residents from unchecked waste management practices despite complaints of foul odour, contaminated water and health problems.

The MP accused the private firm managing the landfill and the municipal officials concerned of submitting “misleading reports” on waste processing and leachate treatment. He alleged that untreated polluted water is being discharged into nearby canals and lakes, affecting agriculture, livestock and local livelihoods.

Mr. Rajender said water from local sources had become unfit for domestic use. He also claimed that the region had seen a rise in serious health problems, including cancer and kidney ailments. Warning that the situation could worsen without corrective measures, the BJP leader announced a public meeting on October 30 to demand a permanent solution to the crisis.
