As winter sets in in Kashmir, Inspector General of Police Sujit Kumar on Saturday (October 24, 2026) called for “effective action against overground workers (OGWs), hybrid terrorists and other elements inimical to peace and security”.

Reviewing security preparedness and policing measures with top officials, Mr. Kumar called for stronger intelligence gathering and close monitoring of emerging security challenges. He also stressed the need for coordinated efforts to maintain peace and public order.

He also pushed for dynamic checkpoints across Kashmir, with “effective and intelligence-driven” measures to “ensure minimum inconvenience to the public”.

Terror module busted

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Police said they have busted a module in north Kashmir’s Bandipora allegedly associated with the banned organisation Ittihad-ul-Muslimeen and operating under the directions of a Pakistan-based handler.

“The investigation has revealed suspected links involving prison-based coordination, covert meetings for propagating separatist ideology and financial transactions. Further investigation is going on,” the police said.
