The 17th edition of the Kaiga Bird Marathon, organised by the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), Kaiga unit, will be held in and around Kaiga on February 6 and 7, 2027.

The two-day bird survey offers birdwatchers an opportunity to explore the avian diversity of the Western Ghats. About 315 bird species have been recorded in the region during previous editions, and organisers believe that more species could be documented.

The event is among the few long-running bird surveys conducted continuously by a corporate organisation in India. Scientists from various institutions, including the Bombay Natural History Society and the Wildlife Institute of India, along with participants from diverse backgrounds, have taken part in previous editions.

Participants will be divided into nine teams based on their experience and expertise to survey different locations and document bird species.

The organisers will select 50 participants from across the country, while the remaining participants will be drawn from NPCIL personnel and students of the College of Forestry.

Interested participants can register by November 30 by filling out an online form or emailing birdingkaiga@gmail.com.
